King Promise has reacted to assertions that a possible Artiste of the Year victory at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) this year will be based only on pity, stating that his rapid ascent and diligence speak for themselves.

The "Terminator" hitmaker is firmly in the spotlight as a front-runner for the top honour, with a catalogue of hits, ten nominations, and an international tour that saw him take over stages across five continents. He maintains that he has earned every right to win the coveted title at the TGMA on Saturday, May 10, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

Some doubters have stated that King Promise's possible victory might make up for last year's lost dream after losing the crown to his fiercest opponent, Stonebwoy, as the industry and fans prepare for what is sure to be a great evening.

As fate would have it, the two giants of music are vying for the top award in the business once again. However, King Promise's team is retaliating strongly this time, rejecting the "pity vote" argument as being disrespectful to their artist, who has achieved his position at the top with unrivalled diligence, successful albums, and worldwide supremacy.

King Promise's TGMA campaign spokesperson, Tilly Akua Nipaa, stated in an unreserved interview with Graphic Showbiz on Tuesday, April 22, that a critical examination of the artist's performance, nominations, and numbers makes it abundantly evident that a potential victory for him would be determined by outcomes rather than feelings.

According to her, King Promise's stats seem more encouraging this year. King Promise had ten nominations and four chart-topping hits: Paris, Continental, Sexy, and Favourite Story, as opposed to six nominations and two acknowledged tracks the previous year. With performances across Asia, Europe, and North America, Tilly emphasises that this leap further supports his argument by demonstrating the artist's local dominance and worldwide reach.

"King Promise only had two songs when he ran for Artiste of the Year last year, including Terminator, which received six nominations. This year, King Promise has four songs Paris, Continental, Sexy and Favourite Story and has 10 nominations, therefore you can see the double effort done by the artiste in the year under review as compared to the prior year,” she said.

"With these numbers, you can't tell me that King Promise didn't work hard to double the work he did last year, so it's a fallacy if anyone claims that he will only win out of sympathy."

King Paluta, Black Sherif, Kweku Smoke, Joe Mettle, and Team Eternity Ghana are among the seven heavyweights in the Artiste of the Year category; nevertheless, many fans and commentators have focused on a possible three-horse race between King Promise, King Paluta, and Stonebwoy.

According to Tilly, King Promise was much superior to the other finalists in terms of sheer creativity, accomplishments, reach, consistency, and influence, even if the other nominees had a solid chance of winning.

"If it's about the 2024 job, compare the artistry side by side and you'll notice how King Promise surpasses them all. With appearances on five continents in 2024, including Asia, where he made inroads into markets in Singapore, Indonesia, Dubai, Japan, and Malaysia, King Promise's worldwide reach grew considerably, she added.

However, she was quick to acknowledge that the TGMA Board, Academy, and voting public had the last say and that skill and chart-topping successes alone were insufficient to win the ultimate award.

"Getting votes is more important than just having a good chance. Did the artist's crew aggressively cast ballots, encourage fans to cast ballots, and solicit votes? This is a frequently asked topic.
