74-year-old British national dies during sex at movie house in East Legon

A 20-year-old interior decorator, Pearl Agbomadzi, has been charged with murder by an Accra High Court.

The case relates to the death of 74-year-old British national, John Scott Hughes, who had been residing in Ghana.

According to the prosecution, Mr. Hughes had invited Ms. Agbomadzi to meet him at American House, later taking her to Philipo’s Movie House, a well-known spot in East Legon, where he booked a room.

The prosecution claims that Mr. Hughes and Ms. Agbomadzi, identified as his girlfriend, watched pornographic material and engaged in consensual sexual activity.

During the encounter, Mr. Hughes allegedly lost consciousness and collapsed, prompting Ms. Agbomadzi to panic.

She hurried to the reception area for help and informed staff about Hughes’ condition.

Police officers were called to the scene, and Hughes was rushed to Legon Hospital, where he was declared dead.

The complaint in the case was filed by Hughes' wife.

On October 24, Pearl Agbomadzi’s lawyer, John Baptist Ayedze, applied for bail for his client, who had been held in police custody since her arrest.

The prosecution, represented by Assistant State Attorney Frederick Adu Gyamfi, did not oppose the bail request.

Judge Lydia Osei Marfo granted bail set at GHS100,000 with one surety.

In her final comments, the judge advised older men to be mindful of their sexual choices, warning that relationships with significantly younger women could be risky due to age differences.
