Nigerian ringleader uncovered
Okoribe Olohitare Ejeme, a female employee of the Port Harcourt International Airport's Security (AVSEC), was detained yesterday. She was one of the ringleaders of the abduction conspiracy.
The Ghana Police Service, working with the Nigerian Police Force via the National Signals Bureau (NSB), made the arrest of Ms. Ejeme possible.
“The two female victims of kidnapping captured on video which went viral have been rescued by the Ghana Police Service in cooperation with the Nigeria Police Force and the National Signals Bureau (NSB),” the statement said. In relation to the incident, eight (8) individuals have been apprehended so far from their hiding places in Ghana and Nigeria.
As investigations proceed, more information about the rescue effort will be released, the police noted.
Many people have praised the security forces for their well-coordinated work, and the Ghana Police have thanked the Nigeria Police Force and the NSB. "For their cooperation and assistance in the rescue and arrest operations, the Ghana Police Service is incredibly appreciative of the Nigeria Police Force and the NSB," the statement said.
On April 22, 2025, Ama Serwaa Konadu, 39, a well-known hairdresser and event decorator in Asiakwa, in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region, was kidnapped as one of the victims. According to reports, she was taken prisoner by unidentified males after leaving home for work.
Using her own phone, the kidnappers shared many naked recordings of her to family members the next day and demanded GH₵500,000 in ransom to free her. She was seen in the recordings being physically abused and looking quite traumatised.
Following an official report from the victim's family to the Ghana Police and other national security agencies, the police immediately began an investigation with assistance from Nigerian authorities.
