Patch Bay Band to Perform at Millennium Excellence Awards

The Patch Bay Band, under the direction of bassist Philip Acquah, is one band that stands out when it comes to live performances in Ghana.

The band has been the preferred option for event planners for many years. The band has performed at corporate parties, comedy performances, music award ceremonies, and music reality contests with leading local and worldwide musicians.

They are travelling to Kumasi this weekend to attend the annual Millennium Excellence Awards, which are presented by the Millennium Excellence Foundation to honour and acknowledge exceptional accomplishments in a range of professions.

The three-day event will feature an awards ceremony and banquet on Saturday, a tour to the Manhyia Palace tomorrow, May 9, and a Business Summit at the Lancaster Hotel today.

Mr. Acquah, who is also the band's music director, claims that they are ready to wow the exclusive crowd.

"We are arriving with excellent plans, which is something we haven't done before. In an interview, he said, "We're going to improve the artists' performances by adding lovely touches to their already-produced songs, tailored to suit guests at such a high-profile event."

The main singers Beryl Stephenson and Frank Amankwaa, also known as Kwaku Future, are joined by Dominic Quarchie on guitar, Nana Yaw Safo on drums, Benjamin Nii Armah on percussion, Bright Sarpong on keyboard, and Yaw Moore on sequencer.

According to Mr. Acquah, the band has endured over the years because of its members' dedication to music and discipline, even if some have gone on to pursue solo careers or other endeavours.

He pointed out that the band has established a solid reputation in Ghana's music business and that each member views rehearsals and other band-related tasks as full-time jobs.

When the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) held the Ghana Music Honours event at the National Theatre in 2017, the band took home the Best Band Honour.

Mr. Acquah won Instrumentalist of the Year at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) in the same year. In 2018 and 2021, respectively, Dominic Quarchie and Nana Yaw Safo, two more band members, were given the same accolade.

"We take our work seriously, just like people in the corporate world," he stated in response to the band's continued relevance after more than 15 years. If we have events, we spend a lot of time practicing so that we can provide our audience with something new. We practise for six hours on some days, and my team's commitment and discipline make this possible.

In order to enhance their art and remain up to date with trends, he said, the band has also made a concerted effort to stay up to date with emerging technology.
