Open letter to the President: waste management

I write as a concerned citizen who really cares about our dear nation's economic progress and environmental sustainability.

In Ghana, waste management has long been a problem that has an impact on cleanliness, public health, and the general visual appeal of our towns.

Even while the government and important commercial organisations, like Zoomlion Ghana Limited, have made great progress in garbage management, it is now clear that one firm cannot effectively manage the trash produced across the whole country.

In light of this, I suggest a district-level decentralised waste management system that would establish many waste management firms in every district.

In addition to increasing garbage collection and disposal efficiency, this strategy would foster competition in the market, which would eventually provide superior outcomes.

We will guarantee greater coverage, provide more job opportunities, and promote ongoing innovation in trash disposal methods if we set up 10 or more waste management firms each district.

Furthermore, this strategy is consistent with the recent influence shown by the Bus Stop Boys, a dynamic young organisation that has made a significant contribution to maintaining the cleanliness of our streets.

Their initiatives demonstrate the need of waste management plans that are appealing to youth and competitive.

We can inspire young people to see waste management as a feasible and profitable career option by making the industry more exciting and fulfilling.

Additionally, the implementation of a competitive system would force businesses to enhance their offerings and productivity in order to keep their contracts and market share.

These businesses will be more motivated to go above and above to keep our towns clean if they are given incentives via performance-based contracts.

Additionally, this competition will support a 24-hour economy in which garbage is continually collected and processed, guaranteeing that towns and cities are always clean.

Sir, putting this plan into practice would not only transform Ghana's waste management system but also boost the country's economy by generating thousands of new employment.

In order to maintain high standards, the government and the private sector must work together to create laws that encourage the decentralisation of waste management, provide local business owners financial assistance and incentives, and maintain stringent regulatory monitoring.

This suggestion offers a sustainable and financially feasible answer to Ghana's waste management problems, therefore I implore you to give it some thought.
