Eddie Howe, the manager of Newcastle, will not play in Sunday's Premier League match against Manchester United due to his hospital admission.
According to the club, the 47-year-old "felt unwell for a number of days" and was admitted to the hospital late Friday.
"Medical personnel kept Eddie in the hospital overnight for additional tests, which are ongoing," the statement read.
"He is conscious and talking with his family, and is continuing to receive expert medical care."
The team said: "Everyone at Newcastle United extends their best wishes to Eddie for a speedy recovery, and further updates will follow in due course."
No more information about his status or ailment was included in the announcement.
When Ruben Amorim's team visits Newcastle at St. James' Park, deputy managers Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones will take over for Howe.
Tindall replaced Howe during Friday's pregame press conference.
Howe led Newcastle to their first domestic trophy in seven decades last month when they defeated Liverpool at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final.
At the moment, Newcastle is ranked sixth in the Premier League standings.
Howe, who was born in Amersham, has been the Magpies' head coach since November 2021, when he took over from Steve Bruce.
The last three seasons have seen Newcastle finish fourth, seventh, and eleventh.
In 165 games across all competitions, Howe has led Newcastle to 84 victories, 36 draws, and 45 losses.
In the 2023–24 Champions League season, the Magpies famously defeated Paris St-Germain in the group stage, but they were unable to advance to the knockout stage under Howe.
He has been considered as a potential manager of England and has previously managed Bournemouth twice before a brief stay at Burnley.
Thomas Tuchel was named Three Lions manager last October, and he claimed that the Football Association did not interview him to succeed Gareth Southgate.
